Banská Bystrica
History of the town:
The first
mention about Banská Bystrica was in 1255. There was mined copper, iron and
silver. The Germans moved to the town in 13th century. The name of city used
„Neusohl“ like New Zvolen. In 16th century mining uprising was held there. Banská Bystrica
was the center of protestants in controversy with
Hungarians and Turks. In 1776 there was provided Roman Catholic bishopric . After the outbreak of the Slovak National Uprising the Banská Bystrica
became military, administrative and politic center of insurrentionary of
Slovakia. In September 1944 experience German borbandment. It was the main town
Banská Bystrica county and then middle Slovak county.
Schools:
There are
many primary schools, secondary schools like: medical, pedagogical, grammar,
businnes schools, hotel academy and schools with different sections. There is
one University of Matej Bell with different faculties:
economic, political, science, pedagogical,
faculty of law and faculty of phylosophy.

Bystrica as a big town has many interesting sights, which people or turists
visite in their free time.
The Memorial of the Slovak
National Uprising
This
interesting architectural building symbolize the history of Slovak nation during the 2nd World War. Indoor situated museum of Slovak
National Uprising with exposition. This building presents politic, military and
community events of history of Slovak.
Stone fountain (Water
pride of Banská Bystrica)
The Stone
fountain situated at Town square Slovak National Uprising. This build during
summer create nice refreshment on mosaic paving. It have electric lighting,
which change colour every evening. In
1536 on this place situated drinking water reserve.
State Opera House
The State
Opera arise in 1959 in place of National House. It is meaning slovak theatrical
opera. In her scene takes place opera, operetta, musical, ballet and concert
oeuvre of Slovak and foreign autors.
The Clock Tower (Leaning
Tower)
The Clock Tower
is one of the dominant of Banská Bystrica. In the past there is situated
torture chamber and prison. Today it is available for public. It have 101
stairs and from above is amazing outlook on all town square.
Where to go?
In Banská
Bystrica situated a lots of places, which tourists like to visit. During
summer on town square play live music. There are different exhibitions and
performances, many bars with terrace, where the people can give fresh drinks or
ice cream. During winter people can skiing at ski resort „Skalka“.

held annually in May in Banská Bystrica at atletic stadion. It is the event where
people go for having fun at different concerts. There are lots of refreshment
stands.
„Radvanský“ fair
„Radvanský“
fair was in 2011 official registered to directory cultural inheritance. Every
year it happens in September. This year it will be 360. fair. The part of fair
is market of art craft.
Beach swimming pool
During hot
weather Banská Bystrica offer swimming pool with six pools and lake. There are
lots of toboggans and refreshments. The visitors can play beach volleyball
or football.

Europa shopping centre
Europa
shopping centre is shopping-entertainment center and also largest in Banská Bytrica.
It was building in 2005. There are situated restaurants, caffe bars, shops with
clothes or shoes and many others. There is cinema too. Every day many people
visit this centre.
